Trip Journal - First Romanian Nominee for Webby Awards

April 2011

Our application, Trip Journal, was nominated for Best Travel App in the 15th Annual Webby Awards.

We were honoured to receive the nomination from the Webby Awards judges, who have considered Trip Journal to be one of the best mobile applications in the world, in the Travel category. The fact that a Romanian application has never been one of the finalists makes us enjoy this even more.

The 15th Annual Webby Awards helped us join the ranks of the biggest names in the field (Kayak Mobile, TripIt, Airbnb si Conde Naste Traveller City Guides). Considered by the New York Times to be the "Internet's highest honour", the Webby Awards gather the most important solutions and services with online components each year.

"Nominees like Trip Journal are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet," said David-Michel Davies, executive director of the Webby Awards. "It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the nearly 10,000 entries we received this year."

As a nominated app, Trip Journal can also be awarded the Webby People’s Choice Award, through online votes received from the global community. The votes can be sent until 28th April 2011. Winners will be announced on May 3rd, 2011 and honoured at a star-studded ceremony in New York City on June 13th where they will have an opportunity to deliver one of the Webby's famous five-word speeches to the world. Past Webby Award winners - and their speeches - include Al Gore ("Please don't recount this vote."), Stephen Colbert ("Me. Me. Me. Me. Me."), and Michel Gondry ("Keyboards are full of germs.") For a full list of last year's five-word speeches, please visit: http://www.webbyawards.com/press/speeches.php.

This year will be the first time when the ceremony will be broadcast live over the internet through a partnership with MLB Advanced Media (MLBAM), the interactive division of Major League Baseball. The Webby Awards is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 650-person judging academy whose members include Internet co-inventor Vinton Cerf, R/GA's Chief Bob Greenberg, "Simpson's" creator Matt Groening, Arianna Huffington, and Harvey Weinstein.
