iQuest University - Java Internship concluded
April 2008
Another edition of our Java Internship is over. A new generation of students are now familiar with Java programming and working on projects. There have been three and a half months of hard work for those involved, from diving into theory to applying it on real projects. It may have been a challenge for some to keep up the pace but it was definitely worth it.
'I have learnt in a month more than in three years of school as I got acquainted with the necessary information and learnt how to deal with the problems. I also realised how important the communication inside the team is, the feedback that you receive from peers. At school you are not encouraged to work as a team', says Ionut regarding the internship experience.
'The internship was a very useful experience as I thought there were things I truly knew but then I realised how much more there was to be learnt.' 'The most important lesson of the internship… I would consider it to be the experience itself. I mean that it is a very different experience from any of the ones at school, you get to know what a real project means, what problems you have to face and the appropriate solutions to apply.'
If you are a student thinking why you should consider such a program in the future, here are some arguments written by those who have already experienced it:
• Get to know your real level of knowledge
• Receive feedback and guidance from people with a solid experience in the field
• Acquire knowledge and develop skills
• Work in a real project environment with a distributed team
• Knowledge of full project lifecycle activities
• Challenge your limits
• Meet new people
• Be part of a team
• Learn where to find the necessary documentation
• Get handy information
• Lay the foundation of your future career.
A very enriching experience has ended and has opened the doors for many others to come.
